Solidly mid-summer. Rooting a cutting off an umbrella plant from a friend’s house. Love propagating plants from dear ones. As the plant grows, it puts me in mind of who gave me the cutting to begin with. It’s living memory in a way I guess.
The harvest is daily now. Every day there’s a surprise – the first red ripe tomatoes, a cucumber that just appears, peppers that grow so fast that they mature in a single day. Grateful. Reminds us who is truly in charge.
No more storebought bread. Not that we eat it often. But what is eaten it should be deeeeelish. Baking up a Martha Stewart recipe for Kaiser rolls, sans the seeds. Grandma house smells. Not mine, but Eric’s. Bread is memory for him. Made cheddar cheese for first time. We shall see.
Potatoes growing fast. Concerned they are crowded.
Braided onions. Hope they will store just through the fall. Leeks will be up by then. No more onions from any store.
Mu and Hen were very sad after a weekend visit from their favorite friend. Mu ignored her all day but sat in her chair after. Cataloofnessosity. Hen posed. How does he have a concept of a picture? Such a bright little guy.
