Some things are starting in the garden. The ginger I have been coaxing along since November went out into pots and are starting to grow a bit. It’s pretty exciting and I am sure I overdid it. I will have wayyyy more ginger than I will plant so will be giving them away or maybe selling to recoup some of the garden investment.
I made JADAM calcium fertilizer – or at least started it. It’s a natural way to extract the calcium bound in egg shells. First you roast the egg shells in a pan until toasty, then you put it in vinegar for about a week. The egg shells release carbon dioxide and by some crazy process, available calcium is leached into the vinegar. You can then use it in your garden – tomatoes especially need additional calcium. Here’s it in action:
The peas in the polyhaus are starting to emerge as well. I had planted some outside at the same time, and of course those are not going anywhere yet. But this polyhaus is working well for jump starting the peas.
I have been working on my chicken curry recipe here and there. It has been requested but the problem is I don’t know the recipe. I just make it. I experimented with NOT marinating the chicken overnight in yogurt and spices and I wasn’t happy with it. So yea, marinating is crucial. Otherwise the chicken – no matter how you cook it – is just “blank” as the kids say.
Oh how it pains me that the kids don’t won’t don’twanna aintgonna cook. But I won’t talk about my frustrations here. It just makes me quite sad for them.
We potted up some of our little seedlings – the tree collards and kales look especially good. Some of the seedlings may have been touched by dampening off – it’s a learning curve so we may need to rinse and repeat for some seeds. It’s ok, we started a bit early just in case.
